Tried our 14 piece Beginner’s Bundles? Check out these feeding tips and great flavour combinations for baby

Our Beginner’s Bundles are the perfect purchase or gift for someone starting solids. With 14 handy 2oz portions that can be eaten on their own, combined with each other, or mixed in with other ingredients or flavours. Choose from Greens & Grains or Roots & Grains!

In this article we provide some of our favourite baby food combinations and tips for getting the most nutritional value from the pairings. And our feeding specialist Rachel has answered the question “how much should I be feeding my baby?”

Portion size!

If following a texture progression, our feeding specialist Rachel suggests it is helpful to start with one meal a day with the remaining meals consisting of breast or bottle feeding. Our 2-3 oz sizes are a great amount to start with but Rachel says “be mindful of those non-verbal signs that your baby is full. If you baby gets full before finishing a serving, save it for the next day.”

Our favourite combos

Quinoa banana porridge

Our organic quinoa porridge is perfect combined with banana to make a perfect scoopable first dish for baby. While defrosting or heating the Tiny Spoons pod, mash a banana with a little milk. Add a dash of vanilla and quinoa to the banana mixture and you have a flavourful porridge for your little one.

Pairing lentils for iron absorption

We recommend mixing this blend with the broccoli or bell pepper pod included in the bundle. Why? Well, lentils are loaded with iron and zinc, two essential nutrients that babies often don’t get enough of in their diets. When served with foods that contain lots of vitamin C the body absorbs more of the iron in the lentils. Another great option is our Lentil, Bell Pepper and Butternut Squash Stew, this option teams iron, zinc and vitamin c all in one handy meal!

Flavourful oats for baby

Oatmeal is a simple way to introduce the grain to baby and they make a great vehicle for other flavours and textures. We love to combine the oat and pumpkin pods from the Beginners Bundle with a pinch of cinnamon and some milk. Another good option is mixing with the butternut squash pod and a pinch of cardamom.

If you’re looking for more spiced pumpkin recipes, check out our Best Sellers Bundle which contains 12 meals and 24 snacks including delicious Pumpkin Spiced Muffins.

Fibre packed veggies

If trying flavours like carrot or broccoli for the first time you might want to try adding to an already known taste you have tried with your baby, for example apple or pear. Herbs and spices like cinnamon, cumin, ginger and paprika pair well with carrot and sweet potato blends.

Fruit & veggie based snacks

We keep the ingredients list on our snacks low to give you the option to try out finger foods and new textures with your little one.

Why not try our 5 ingredient Peanut Butter & Banana Finger Bake with local eggs and bananas. Or our flavoursome Pancakes with locally grown ingredients.

Introducing new foods

The advice from our resident feeding specialist Rachel on introducing new ingredients is to look out for allergic reactions or food sensitivities such as breathing issues, rashes, vomiting, changes in bowels, or behavioural changes such as lethargy or fussiness. Rachel says “it is helpful to wait 3-5 days before introducing another new food in order to monitor these signs. If you notice any of these signs and several areas of the body are affected, the reaction may be severe or even life-threatening and requires immediate medical attention.”
